Prepared food does not get the grocery rate
Tennessee taxes food for home consumption at 4% but the general rate is 7%, and prepared food is taxed at the general rate plus your local option, per TN DOR. Every jurisdiction adds a local option, capped at 2.75%
Your all-in rate depends on your county and city, and the state caps the local piece at 2.75%. We program your exact local rate at install and verify it against your first filed return, because a rate that is off by a quarter point is wrong on every single ticket.
